Charity Raffles: What You Need to Know

Updated yesterday

Givebacks allows you to sell both online and printed raffle tickets for a flexible experience suited to your unique fundraising needs. Discover more about this experience type with some commonly asked questions below.

Who can run a raffle?

State and federal regulations govern raffles. Find out more about ensuring you meet the criteria for running a raffle below.

How much does it cost?

Below is an article that will give you further information on each pricing option.

Types of raffles

We have two ways to run a raffle experience: people can either buy entries to win any of the prizes listed or purchase entries for specific prizes. Find out more about how these two options work below.

Can I sell tickets in person?

All of our raffles allow for in-person ticket sales. After you’ve sold the physical tickets, you can then manually enter the sales into the experience to ensure all participants are given their chance during the drawing. Find out more about how this process works below.

Entry pricing

There is some psychology around pricing entries for your raffle in a way that will promote sales and thus raise the most money possible. Here is some information to review before choosing your entry pricing.

Drawing winners

Our certified random generator can draw the winners for you. You can also export entry information and perform the drawing yourself with the instructions provided in the link below.

Raffle vs. Sweepstakes

Raffles and sweepstakes bear many similarities, but one key difference is that raffles require a payment for a chance to win something and are therefore considered a form of gambling. Sweepstakes, on the other hand, must offer a free method of entry in addition to donation-based entries. Find out more about how these two types of fundraisers differ in terms of regulations and other key details below.

Notify winners

From the experience setup menu, you’ll have the option to either automatically have Givebacks notify winners after they’re drawn or to notify them manually on your own. Here are some links to help you decide on the best option for your raffle.

How to promote your experience

To begin making progress towards your fundraising goals, begin spreading the word about your raffle to as many people as possible. Sharing your fundraiser with the greatest number of potential donors increases exposure and may make others more likely to share your cause with people in their network, too. You can share the link to your fundraiser on social media or send an email to your donors, family, and friends to get the word out.

Additionally, our free text-to-give tool helps to generate donations at live events. With this option, you’ll use a unique keyword and number, which will allow people to text and receive a link to the experience on their phone. They can then donate at their convenience on their mobile device. Read this article for more ideas on how to use this convenient feature:

Sharing rewards is a feature that helps you attract new donors and increase donations by motivating your supporters to promote your experience. As a reward for sharing and bringing new donors to your experience, they can receive free bonus entries for themselves. Find out more below:

If you want to do your drawing live, consider live-streaming it so that anyone who can’t attend can still participate. Viewers will be able to watch the winners drawn on your fundraiser page in real-time. Find out more below:
