How do the Credit Card Processing fees work for the store?

The combined credit card processing fee and platform fee for your Givebacks store is 3.95% plus $0.95 per transaction. You can pass the fee on to the payor, or the organization can absorb it.

There are separate settings for online purchases and in-person sales. To select who pays the fees for online store purchases, go to Store>Settings. For in-person sales using the POS app, go to Mobile POS>POS Settings.

What are the credit card fees for the Givebacks Store?

The fee for the store is 3.95% of the total cost + $0.95 per transaction. This is inclusive of the Stripe credit card processing fee and the Givebacks platform fee.

Your organization has the option to pass the fee on to the payer or absorb it directly. Based on how your organization chooses to handle this, the fee is calculated slightly differently to ensure the organization always receives the full amount.

If you choose to absorb the fee:

The fee is calculated as 3.95% of the item cost, plus $0.95 per transaction.

Example on a $10 purchase: 3.95% of $10.00 = 0.395 rounded to $0.40. $0.40 + $0.95 per transaction = $1.35.

  • Since your organization is opting to pay the fee, the $1.35 would be subtracted from the $10, and your organization would receive $8.65 in your payout.

  • Your customer would pay $10.00.

If you choose to pass the fees on to your payor:

The fee is calculated as 3.95% of the total charge, including the 95 cents per transaction.

Example on a $10 purchase: $10.00 + $0.95 = $10.95.

Since the percentage fee is 3.95%, the calculation is 1 - 0.0395 = 0.9605 (this 0.9605 should be used on any total item cost).

$10.95/.9605 = $11.40.

  • $11.40 is the total the customer would pay

  • $10.00 goes to the organization

  • $1.40 goes to covering processing fees

Note: There are no fees for cash or check payments.

Fee Settings for Online Purchases

In the Store settings page, you can choose who pays the fees -- the customer or the organization.

  1. From the toolbar, select Store and then select Settings.

  2. Select the Processing Fees tab.

  3. Click the drop-down for Processing Fees and select either Pass on fees to your customers or Absorb all fees.

  4. Click Save Changes.

Fee Settings for the POS App (In-person sales)

On the Mobile POS setting page, you can select who pays the fees, independent of your online purchase settings.

  1. From the toolbar, select Mobile POS and then POS Settings.

  2. Scroll to the Processing Fees section.

  3. Click the button for either Pass on processing fees to your customers or Cover processing fees for your customers.
