Have questions about Givebacks Rewards? You’re in the right place. Below you’ll find simple answers to the most common questions about how Rewards work.
Also, check out Offers & Cashback FAQs.
What are Rewards?
Rewards are a percentage of your purchase that are “given back” to you as cashback or can be donated to your school or nonprofit. The percentage is set by the store or restaurant and may change. You’ll see the current rate in the app or in the browser/mobile extension.
How do I enroll in Rewards?
Download the Givebacks app.
Create your account.
Link eligible credit/debit cards for dining Rewards.
Add the Givebacks Chrome extension for online Rewards.
When you make a qualifying purchase (online or dining), your Rewards will appear in the Account section of the app.
If you’ve already made a purchase in the Givebacks app, you’re enrolled automatically when you link a card at checkout. Once a card is linked, any purchase you make with that card at participating stores or restaurants will earn Rewards.
How do Rewards work?
Rewards work with the way you already shop. Each time you check out online or eat at participating merchants, Rewards are added to your Account automatically.
How do I earn Rewards?
There are two ways to earn Rewards:
Online shopping:
Just add the Givebacks browser extension, and a pop-up will appear when you shop at participating merchants online. Then, click “Activate Offer” from the extension. You’ll see a percentage in the pop—that’s the percentage of your purchase that the merchant gives back in Rewards.
Dining out:
To earn Rewards when you dine out, link an eligible credit or debit card in the app. When you dine at participating restaurants, Rewards are added to your account automatically.
How do I use my Rewards?
You can use Rewards in three ways:
Cashback for you – Transfer your balance directly to your bank account.
Pay with Rewards (coming soon) – Use your Rewards to pay for school fees, tickets, and other purchases in the Givebacks app.
Donate them – Send your Rewards directly to your school or nonprofit through the app.
What kinds of organizations participate in Rewards?
From booster clubs and athletic teams to the many other groups that make your school community thrive, we support the full K–12 ecosystem. You can choose to support as many as you want! Nonprofits can join in too, and you can choose to direct your Rewards to them as well.
How do I choose an organization to give back to?
When you create a Givebacks account, you’ll be prompted to follow an organization (you can change it at any time). The app will then customize your experience based on the organization or school you follow. You can also support multiple causes at one time!
Can I change the organization(s) I support?
Yes, you can change the orgs you want to support at any time in the Givebacks app. After you change your organization, Rewards will be donated to that school or nonprofit.
Does using Rewards cost me money?
No! Rewards are paid by the merchant. Givebacks Rewards is merchant-funded. When you make a purchase and earn cashback, participating merchants pay us a fee for sending them a customer!
How much cashback do I get?
Every merchant gives a percentage of your purchase back in Rewards. For example, AT&T Prepaid gives $3 back with every purchase. But Sephora may give 3% of your purchase today and 2.5% tomorrow. You can always see the current promotions in the app or the extension. You’ll get whatever cashback rate is being offered on the day of your purchase.
Where can I find my Rewards?
Your Rewards balance is visible in the Givebacks app. Open the app and go to Account. You’ll see your current Rewards balance and a history of recent transactions.
What’s the extension? Do I need it?
The extension is a small add-on for your browser or mobile device that makes sure you don’t miss Rewards when shopping online.
On desktop: It’s the Givebacks Chrome Extension.
On mobile: It’s an extension for Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android).
You don’t have to use it, but without the extension, you won’t get reminders to activate Rewards at online stores—so you may miss earning.
Do I need to keep my receipts?
You can! We also store all of your transaction history in the app under Account. If you ever have questions about your Rewards, it is helpful to have receipts available.
Is my credit card information stored when I use Givebacks Rewards?
No, Givebacks does not receive or store your bank account, payment card, or online payment service credentials on any systems that we operate. Rewards use a process called Tokenization. The primary difference—and benefit—of using tokenization vs. encryption is that tokenized data cannot be returned to its original form. Unlike encryption, tokenization does not use keys to alter the original data. Instead, it entirely removes the data from an organization's internal systems and exchanges it for a randomly generated nonsensitive placeholder (a token). These placeholders can be stored within an organization's internal systems for business use, while sensitive values are safely stored outside of its environment.
So, in the event that a tokenized environment is breached, no sensitive data or compromising keys/credentials would be revealed—only the non-sensitive tokens. Because no sensitive data is being stored, none can be stolen. In effect, the risk of data theft is virtually eliminated.
Does Givebacks sell my data?
We do not sell or share data with third parties outside of the partner networks, payment network, and other third parties contracted to perform the services and deliver the functions within the Givebacks applications.
What cybersecurity does Rewards use?
Givebacks uses industry standard AES-256 encryption algorithm to encrypt your data.
