There are three types of custom fields available in the product setup - Product Options and Variants, Product Modifiers, and Additional Fields.
Product Options and Variants are used to configure product variations such as size, color, or material specifications. Inventory tracking can be used with Product Options. Product Options and Variants are available in products but not in memberships.
Product Modifiers let you offer optional add-ons that change a product’s total price without creating separate product variants. They’re a good fit when the base product stays the same, but supporters can choose extras like toppings, rush fees, lunch add-ons, or personalization. Product Modifiers are available in products but not in memberships.
Additional Fields are a great way to collect additional information from your customers, such as delivery notes or custom messages. Additional Fields are available in product and membership setups. These can be saved and used in multiple products.
Note: You can filter your contacts and create dynamic lists based on Additional Fields results. For more information, see How do I create dynamic lists?
Adding Product Options and Variants
Use Product Options and Variants to add product variants to your product. These can include sizes and colors. You can track inventory for each product variant.
Create a new product by selecting Store, then Products. Click the New Product button.
Complete the Product Details.
Scroll to the Product Options section.
Click Add Option.
Enter the Option Name, for example, Size or Color.
Click Add Item to add the choices. Repeat for each item.
Once you have added all the items, click Add.
Click Add Options to add additional choices.
Turn on Inventory Tracking to manage the quantity of each product option. For more information, see How do I manage inventory in my online store?
Product Variants
Product Variants allow a single product to have multiple purchasable combinations, each with its own pricing and inventory. Variants are automatically generated from Product Options. Each combination becomes its own purchasable variant.
You can update pricing on each variant.
Click on the price in the table or click the three dots next to the variant and select Edit Price.
Note: You can adjust pricing in bulk by checking the box next to the variants, clicking the Action button, and selecting Edit Price.
Enter a price for the product variant. Each variant can have its own fixed price or you can enable the custom price option.
Click Save Changes. If you don't save changes, the price will revert back to the top line price.
Product Modifiers
Product modifiers let you offer optional add-ons that change a product’s total price without creating separate product variants. They’re a good fit when the base product stays the same, but supporters can choose extras like toppings, rush fees, lunch add-ons, or personalization.
Use modifiers when you want a simple product setup, dynamic add-on pricing, and consolidated reporting in a single product. If the selection creates a physically different item or needs separate inventory tracking, use variants instead.
Scroll to the Product Modifiers section, then click Add Modifier.
In the saved modifiers window, select from the pre-existing modifiers or click Add New Modifier if you need to create a new modifier set.
For more information, see How do I create product modifiers?
Note: Modifiers are shared across all products. Once created, they are available site-wide. Saved modifiers can be viewed and created under Store > Settings > Saved Product Modifiers.
Since modifiers are used site-wide, you are not able to change the choices or prices on a saved modifier, but you can use the Selection Requirements to control how many options a supporter can choose.
Use Minimum Selections to require a choice.
Use Maximum Selections to limit the number of selections.
Click Add to attach the modifier to the product.
Add Additional Fields
Use Additional Fields to collect additional information from your customer that isn't product-specific.
Scroll to the Additional Fields section.
Click Add to create a new field or click Add Saved Fields to select from a list of previously saved fields.
For more information on creating saved fields, see How can I save and reuse additional fields in my products?
Enter the Label Name and select the field type.
