How-to: Limit the Total Number of Raffle Entries Available

Restrict the number of Raffle entries available for purchase to create excitement and boost funds raised.

Updated this week

Limiting the number of Raffle entries available to purchase may be a good idea if you want to create a sense of urgency for donors so they purchase entries right away. This strategic approach can make your Raffle appear exclusive, increasing its allure and attracting more donors who don’t want to miss out on limited opportunities. Entry limits work particularly well for high-value prizes or when you want to guarantee specific odds for participants. You can set limits two different ways: restricting the total number of entries available across all prizes, or setting individual limits for specific prizes. This feature is only available for Raffles—you cannot limit the total number of Sweepstakes entries due to legal requirements.

How do I limit entries to win any prize available?

  1. Go to Campaigns in the left menu.

  2. If you have chosen a list view, click on the Campaign title. If you have chosen a grid view, click on the Campaign image.

  3. Select Campaign Setup.

  4. Go to Options in the timeline at the top and select Raffle Options.

  5. Scroll down to Are there a limited number of entries available for your raffle?, check the box, and enter the total number of entries available for purchase:

  6. Select SAVE.

Once this limit is reached, no additional entries can be purchased for any prize in your Raffle. This creates maximum urgency and exclusivity across your entire Campaign.

How do I limit entries to win specific prizes?

Setting prize-specific entry limits allows you to create different levels of exclusivity for individual prizes. This option lets you make premium prizes more exclusive while keeping general entry prizes more accessible:

  1. Go to Campaigns in the left menu.

  2. If you have chosen a list view, click on the Campaign title. If you have chosen a grid view, click on the Campaign image.

  3. Select Campaign Setup.

  4. Go to Raffle in the timeline at the top.

  5. Scroll down to Add prizes and select the prize you want to edit or select Create a prize.

  6. Scroll down to Limit the quantity of entries available for this prize, check the box, and enter the number of entries available for this prize:

  7. Select SAVE.

You can repeat this process for each prize in your Raffle, creating customized entry limits that reflect each item’s value and desirability.

When should I use entry limits for my Raffle?

Entry limits work best in specific scenarios where scarcity enhances appeal. Use overall entry limits when you have high-value grand prizes and want to guarantee attractive odds for all participants, making “only 500 entries available” a compelling selling point. Use prize-specific limits when you want to create tiered exclusivity, such as limiting entries for a luxury vacation to 100 while allowing unlimited entries for general prizes. Entry limits are particularly effective for early bird promotions, exclusive VIP prize tiers, or when you want to create urgency that drives immediate purchases rather than procrastination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when entry limits are reached?

When your entry limit is reached, the Raffle entry purchase option becomes unavailable on your Campaign Page. Potential buyers will see that entries are sold out. If you’ve set prize-specific limits, only the prizes that have reached their limits become unavailable—other prizes remain purchasable. The sold-out status creates social proof that your Raffle is popular and desirable.

Can I increase entry limits after setting them?

Yes, you can increase entry limits at any time by editing your Raffle settings and changing the maximum number of entries allowed. However, you cannot decrease the limit below the number of entries already sold. If you’ve sold 300 entries and want to increase the limit from 500 to 1000, that’s possible. If you’ve sold 300 entries and try to reduce the limit to 200, the system won’t allow it.

How do entry limits affect my fundraising potential?

Entry limits can increase urgency and drive faster purchases, but they also cap your total revenue potential. Before setting limits, calculate your maximum possible revenue and ensure it meets your fundraising goals. For example, if each entry costs $10 and you limit entries to 500, your maximum revenue is $5,000. Balance the urgency benefits of limits against your overall fundraising targets.

Should I advertise that entries are limited?

Yes, prominently advertising entry limits significantly increases their effectiveness. Include the limit in your Campaign description, email marketing, and social media posts with phrases like “Only 500 entries available!” or “Limited to 100 entries for this exclusive prize.” Display remaining entry counts to create real-time urgency as your Raffle sells out. The scarcity only drives behavior if potential buyers know about it.

Can I set entry limits for some prizes but not others?

Yes, when using prize-specific entry limits, you can enable limits for selected prizes while leaving others unlimited. This flexibility lets you create exclusive tiers for premium items while maintaining accessibility for other prizes. For example, limit entries for your grand prize vacation package to create exclusivity, while allowing unlimited entries for general prizes like gift baskets or restaurant certificates. This tiered approach appeals to different donor segments.
